Summer Arts & Crafts

I bet that title garnered some fond memories of summer camp for a few of you, right? Popsicle stick crafts anyone? LOL.

Anyany, every summer I make a goal to either learn a new craft or revisit one I’ve already learned. This summer is no exception, as my new hobby of choice is the age-old needlecraft of cross stitching. I’ve always wanted to learn how to cross stitch; as such I’m having a blast acquainting myself with this needlecraft. While waiting (impatiently) for the rest of my cross stitching supplies to be delivered (my package seems to be taking the scenic route, lol), my sis was kind enough to let borrow some of her floss and fabric to get me started.

She also introduced me to this great little book, Subversive Cross Stitch by Julie Jackson; it’s filled with charmingly wicked patterns that never fail to make me laugh (as shown above). You can view and/or purchase more of Julie’s subversive patterns at her website, Subversive Cross Stitch : Mind Your Fingers.

All in all, cross stitching has turned out to be a lot easier to learn than I expected it to be and not to mention very relaxing and therapeutic. I also can’t wait until I’m skilled enough to ‘graduate’ to embroidery, but until then, baby steps…or better yet, one stitch at a time.
